FAZ NATIONAL LEAGUE WEEK 14: KONKOLA BLADES MAINTAIN TOP SPOT AS PRISON LEOPARDS CLOSE IN
The Week 14 games delivered crucial results in the race for ABSA Cup qualification and the fight to avoid being in the relegation zone. Konkola Blades held their ground at the top with a narrow 1-0 victory over Jumulo FC, courtesy of a disciplined performance that takes them to 33 points. With just three games remaining before Week 17, Konkola Blades remain the only team to have officially secured their place in the ABSA Cup.
Kansanshi Dynamos, however, missed an opportunity to apply pressure at the top after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Kitwe United. They remain in second place on 29 points, but the gap to Prison Leopards has narrowed significantly.
Prison Leopards continued their incredible form with a commanding 2-0 win over Chambishi FC, their fifth straight win, boosting them to 28 points and tightening their grip on third place. With their sights firmly set on the ABSA Cup, Prison Leopards are proving to be one of the most in-form teams in the league.
In fourth place, Mpulungu Harbour kept pace with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chirundu United, reaching 26 points and maintaining their position in the top four. They remain a strong contender for the final ABSA Cup spot, but with several teams still in the hunt, they cannot afford to slip up.
MID-TABLE BATTLE HEATS UP
The battle for mid-table dominance was equally thrilling. Mines United climbed to fifth place with a 2-1 victory over Kafue Eagles, taking them to 22 points and keeping their faint ABSA Cup hopes alive. Leopards Hill also delivered a solid performance, beating Aguila FC 2-0, boosting them to 16 points.
Ndola United, meanwhile, surged to seventh place after a commanding 3-1 win over Chipata United, moving to 17 points and showing signs of recovery as the season approaches its decisive stage.
RELEGATION BATTLE INTENSIFIES
At the bottom, Chambishi (12 points), Kafue Eagles (10 points), and Chipata United (10 points) remain entrenched in the relegation zone. Despite a spirited performance, Chipata’s defeat to Ndola United leaves them in dire need of a late-season surge to escape the drop.
